In online selling, it's important to have good, clear photos of your product. It gives buyers the confidence of seeing what they are buying.
Here are some tips to help you get started:
If you're selling second-hand products, be sure to clearly show any marks or scratches.
If the item is new, you could take pictures with the price tag on.
Use proper lighting to light the entire item thoroughly.
Try to use a background that contrasts with the item.
Avoid background clutter that can distract buyers or confuse them regarding what you are selling.
Set the camera to a medium resolution (for example 1024x768 pixels). This provides excellent photo quality and
results in a faster upload time for pictures used on eBay. It is also good for photo editing, if needed.
Photograph items at close range and at an angle to show enough details and fill the whole frame when appropriate.
Multiple photos enable buyers to see as much detail as possible. For example, tags, labels, original packaging, and accessories.
Deciding the price of your product Your price should cover your product cost and profit margin. At the same time, it should match what buyers are ready to pay for it, and should be competitive with sellers of similar items are offering.
One way to research how much buyers will pay is to see what price similar products were sold at.
Click here to do a completed item search.
Pricing tips:
Used items sell better with auction-style listings.
If the starting price is too high, buyers may have second thoughts. Start with a price that is slightly lower than
what you would want.
The product price should not include the shipping cost. You will enter the shipping cost separately.
Selling through PaisaPay will add certain charges, so make sure you incorporate those into your cost as well. See PaisaPay facility charges
Up to your first 20 listings, you can sell items for free on eBay India. After that you will be charged fees for
listing and on the sale value of your product. Learn about eBay fees
Deciding the cost of shipping (delivering)
Check the charges of a courier company near you. This will be your shipping cost. You can also include cost of packaging, if any. You can offer up to 3 shipping options. It's easiest to offer a flat rate all-India cost for all listings. Also, check if shipping your item will involve any taxes, so that you can include it in your cost. It's advisable to avoid charging higher shipping costs – buyers have the ability to rate you based on how fair your shipping charges are.
Be sure to have a courier service that offers a valid
Proof of Delivery (POD) and offers online tracking.
Retain your POD for at least 9 months, as it may
be required
in case the buyer requests a refund.
During a transaction, your buyers may wish to contact you. That's why it is important that you always keep your contact information accurate and updated. eBay may also need to contact you from time to time.
Note: Always remember to include the STD code for your city or town if your contact number is a landline number.
Important: Providing false contact information or omitting your name, address, and/or telephone number (including use of fax machines or disconnected numbers) is considered as an eBay policy violation. If you believe an eBay member is using false contact information, please report it.
The "product category" is the section of the site where buyers will find your product. Pick a category that fits your product. For example, select the "Cameras & Optics" > "Digital Cameras" category if you are selling a digital camera.
How to select a category:
Click Sell at the top of any page.
Click the Start selling button.
Select the check boxes next to the category and sub-category you want.
Click the Continue button.
The title of your product listing is what tells buyers what you are selling and gets them interested. Include as many words that you think buyers will search to reach your product.
Why you need a good product title:
When buyers search for products, your item will turn up in search results that match the keyword that they searched for.
While browsing the product categories, the first thing the buyer sees about your item is the title.
Include words you would use to search for the product if you were the buyer.
Do not include any brand names or company logos in your listings other than the specific brand name used by the company that manufactured or produced the item you are listing. Certain uses of brand names may also constitute trademark infringement and could expose sellers to legal liability.
Buyers will look for information that helps them decide whether to buy your product or not. Your product description should give overall information and include details such as brand, features, size etc.
Tip: If you're listing in the digital camera or MP3 player categories, you can use the "Pre-filled item information" feature.
Enter a brand, model or product type, select your specific model and the product information will be automatically filled for you. This saves you time, adds professional-looking photographs, and also gives other details buyers will want.
The more accurate and detailed your description is, the easier buyers will find it to make a decision to buy your item. Try including information that you would yourself look out for as a buyer.
Important: Sales outside of eBay
Listings that attempt to make sales outside of eBay are not permitted and will be ended. The Insertion Fee will be automatically credited for that listing. See some examples at https://pages.ebay.in/help/policies/listing-outside-sales.html
Copyrights, trademarks and your listing
Infringing listings or selling or buying any of these items could put you at risk for civil or criminal liability. Your listing could be ended early and you may be suspended from eBay. Learn more
On eBay, you can sell items using 3 formats:
Auction-style: Buyers bid on the product and the highest bidder wins.
Fixed price (Buy it now): Buyers can buy the product instantly at a specific price.
Auction-style with Buy It Now: Buyers can bid on the product or buy it instantly at a fixed price.
If bidding begins, the Buy It Now option automatically disappears and buyers.
To choose a format, click the tab you want to sell with and enter a price.
Remember:
For auction-style listings, the price you enter becomes the starting price.
So enter the price you want bidding to begin at.
For Buy It Now items, the price becomes the final price of the product.
So enter the price you want the product to sell at.
Important: Payment surcharges policy
You cannot charge eBay buyers an additional fee for their use of ordinary form of payments, including acceptance of cheques, demand drafts, or PaisaPay payments (online bank transfers or credit cards). Such costs should be built into the price of the item. This policy reduces the potential for confusion among bidders about the true cost of an item.
You choose the duration for which you want your product to be able for sale. Longer selling durations can give you more advantages. But there are certain rules to using listing durations.
On eBay, for your first 20 listings you can accept payments through:
PaisaPay - eBay's online payment service. Buyers can pay through credit card or online bank transfer. PaisaPay is the most preferred payment method on eBay. Learn more
Once you complete 20 listings, you can offer other payment methods such as:-
Cheque
Demand draft
Cash on delivery
Buyer picks up and pays
Buyers can pay using EMI on ICICI Bank credit cards in 3 or 6 monthly installments. When a buyer chooses to make an EMI payment using ICICI Bank credit card, you will receive the payment in full. The buyer will pay the bank in 3 or 6 monthly installments.
The order amount should be more than Rs. 500 for 3-month EMI and Rs.1500 for 6-month EMI.
If you are eligible to offer EMI, you will see the EMI check box in the Payment methods section of the Sell Your Item form. Clicking this check box will ensure that the EMI logo is displayed in your listing. There are additional facility charges for offering EMI payments with PaisaPay.
Note: You must have a feedback score of 5 or more to offer EMI payments.
Along with the cost of the product, you will also incur the cost of delivering the product to the buyer. Enter this cost along with any cost for packaging or weight. You can also add insurance charges if your product requires it.
When you're done entering all these details, click the Save and Continue button.
You can use various listing features to upgrade your listing, promote your products and improve visibility.

The "Items I'm selling" section in My eBay will help you keep track of the products you're selling or have sold. You can see the number of bidders and the current bid, or you can see how many buyers are watching your item. You can also check for any messages from eBay and your buyers in the "My Messages" section.
Important: Shill bidding policy
Shill bidding is bidding that artificially increases an auction item's price or apparent desirability, or bidding by individuals with a level of access to the seller's item information not available to the general Community. Shill bidding is prohibited on eBay.
You can use the My PaisaPay section in your My eBay to track all your payments through PaisaPay. It forms the hub of all your PaisaPay transactions where you can track the payment status, as well as complete important actions and keep track of timelines.
As soon as the buyer's payment is confirmed, the blue (Rs.) icon next to the transaction in My PaisaPay gets highlighted in blue. You will also receive an e-mail at your registered email address and in "My Messages" at "My eBay" which will tell you that the buyer has paid you.
On receipt of the confirmed payment, you should ship the item to the buyer within the timelines mentioned on the "Sold with PaisaPay" tab in My PaisaPay.
PaisaPay is the safest and most convenient way for you to receive your payment. To maintain the security and good health of the marketplace the PaisaPay team at times requires additional verification from buyers before they can process the transaction. These transactions will appear under the "Payments in process" tab in My PaisaPay.
At this point it is important for you to inform your buyer to communicate with eBay so that the verification can be completed. This support you provide to your buyers would also increase their trust in you.
Tip:
Be patient with your buyer by providing support - the buyer's payment could be on hold for genuine reasons.
As soon as the buyer's payment is confirmed, the blue (Rs.) icon next to the transaction in My PaisaPay gets highlighted in blue. You will also receive an e-mail at your registered email address and in "My Messages" at "My eBay" which will tell you that the buyer has paid you.
Tip: On receipt of the confirmed payment, you should ship the item to the buyer within the timelines mentioned on the "Sold with PaisaPay" tab in My PaisaPay.
Your buyers may have questions about your item before they decide to buy. Keep track of these from My eBay > My Messages section.
Click the Respond button in the email to reply back to the buyer. It's a good idea to frequently check My Messages or your email inbox for questions from buyers. A prompt reply can encourage a buyer to complete the purchase.
Important tips:
Keep your listing as detailed as possible which will lead to lesser questions.
In the item description also inform of the time you will take to answer the question (I will answer within 24 hours).
Provide your contact details in the item description with the time when you can answer the call.
Make sure that the answer is simple to understand
not every person may know technical or product specific terminology.
Don't give features that the product doesn't have.
Always end the mail asking the buyer if further clarification is required. For example: "Write back if you need further information"
In any transaction it is extremely important for you to constantly be in touch with your buyer.
Good communication can help you:
Create confidence in your buyers
Build a strong relation with your buyer
Make bidders aware of their commitment to buy Assure buyers about your reputation on the site
Keep in touch with the buyer during the following steps of a transaction:
When the buyer purchases the item or is the winning bidder
Sending an invoice to the buyer - After receiving the payment and when you ship the item
After entering shipping details
Requesting the buyer to confirm that the item was delivered
Email tips:
Use simple and short words, and complete sentences
Keep emails short and focused
Write thoughtfully; it's easy to make errors in communication
Good communication could be a key in ensuring buyers leave you good feedback as well. Buyers have the ability to rate you based on your communication skills.
There may be some instances where buyers place the order but do not pay for the item (for example - the highest bidder on an auction-style listing does not pay). In such cases, you need to file an Unpaid Item strike against the buyer.
You will then not be charged the final value fee for the item.
You can file the Unpaid Item strike from the "Action drop-down in the "Items I've sold" section in My eBay.
1. Click the "Report an Unpaid Item" link.
2. Select the reason for filing the unpaid item strike.
3. Click the Submit button.
The buyer will be given 7 days to respond to the strike. If the buyer responds to the strike within 7 days, you should communicate with the buyer to complete the payment.
If the buyer does not pay within 7 days, you can close the strike. To close the Unpaid Item strike take the following steps:
1. Click "Dispute Console" in My eBay.
2. Click the "View Dispute" tab for that unpaid item strike.
3. Click the Close Dispute button after selecting the relevant reason for closing it.
After you successfully close the unpaid item strike, you will get a final value fee reversal for that transaction.
After your buyer has paid for your product, PaisaPay will send you and the buyer an email confirming that the payment was approved. You should plan to ship and deliver the product only after you receive this confirmation.
When a payment is confirmed, you will see the "Rs." icon filled up in My eBay.
When do you send an invoice?
When the buyer wins a bid on your auction-style listing
Why to send an invoice:
Send the invoice details to the buyer with the amount to be paid. You can also give a discount to the buyer when getting the invoice calculated.
Remember: If the buyer requests for the total order value you will receive an email. You can click on the link in the mail to send the buyer an invoice.
When a buyer pays using PaisaPay, you will need to ship and deliver the item according to PaisaPay-specified timelines.
But there will be cases when you feel that you will not be able to meet these timelines. If you have not yet entered shipping details for the item, you can then request for additional time. To do this:
1. Go to My PaisaPay
2. Click the PaisaPay ID for the specific transaction.
3. At the bottom of the Transaction Details page, in the "Items pending action" section, click the "Request time extension" link.
4. Select the additional days you require to ship and/or deliver the item.
5. Click the Submit button.
After you submit the request, the buyer can approve or reject it. If the buyer approves your request, the timelines are modified and you get additional time. But if the buyer declines the request or takes no action, you will need to ship according to the original timelines.
Tips:
It is advisable to request for a time extension within 2 days of payment confirmation. This gives the buyers enough time to respond to the request.
Follow-up with the buyer to respond to the request to avoid missing the timeline to enter shipping details and the payment being automatically refunded to the buyer.
Avoid requesting time extensions unless you have no other alternative. Speedy delivery is an important reason for buyers wanting to make more purchases from you. Buyers also have the ability to rate you based on how quickly you delivered the item.
Key shipping timelines to remember
Ship the item
Within 7 days after payment confirmation
* 10 days for international deliveries
Deliver the item
Within 10 days after entering shipping details
*21 days for international deliveries
As part of a PaisaPay transaction, you need to enter shipping details in My PaisaPay. This is a very important step - if you do not complete this step within 7 days (10 days for international deliveries) after the payment is confirmed, the buyer's payment will be automatically refunded.
Important: You have to ensure that the item is delivered as per the deadline. The buyer is eligible to claim a refund within 5 days after the delivery deadline is over. Follow-up with your courier company to ensure delivery. If you feel you cannot deliver the product within the timelines, you can request the buyer for a time extension. Learn more
To enter shipping details:
1. Click My eBay at the top of any eBay page.
2. Click the "My PaisaPay" link on the left-hand side menu.
3. On the Sold with PaisaPay tab, click the Enter shipping details button for the transaction.
4. Enter the courier name and airway bill number (tracking number) and click the Submit button.
After you enter the details, follow-up with your courier company to ensure the item reaches the buyer within 10 days. If the item is not delivered by the deadline, the buyer can claim a refund of the amount paid.
Tip: Choose a courier service that offers a valid Proof of Delivery receipt or document. This will be useful as proof that the product was delivered to the buyer. Retain the POD copies for at least 6 months
To protect the safety of buyers and to ensure a safe trading experience on eBay, buyers are eligible for a refund of their PaisaPay payment in the following two cases:
You do not provide shipping details within the PaisaPay-specified timelines
Always be sure to enter shipping details in your My PaisaPay within the timelines. If you miss this deadline, the buyer's payment is automatically refunded.
Buyer claims that item was not delivered within PaisaPay-specified timelines
After the delivery deadline is over, the buyer has 5 days to confirm whether the item was delivered or not. If the buyer confirms the item is not deliver, the buyer can request a refund of the payment.
PaisaPay will allow you 5 days to provide proof that the item was delivered. Be sure to send these details to PaisaPay within the specified time. Based on the proof on hand, PaisaPay will make a decision in favour of you or the buyer.
If you have actually delivered the item, and it has not yet reached the buyer, you should immediately get in touch with your courier company. You may also contact the buyer and request them to cancel the refund request, if the item was delivered.
Sellers are also eligible for protection against refund claims and chargeback's. Learn more about Seller Protection
After you receive the proof of shipping from your courier service, check with them to ensure the product was delivered to the buyer within the delivery deadline. Then contact your buyer and remind them to confirm that they received the product. The buyer gets 5 days to confirm that the product was delivered. If the buyer does not confirm within these 5 days, your payment is automatically processed and sent to your account.
Why you should follow-up with your buyer:
Buyer confirms through My
PaisaPay that the item was
delivered.
Buyers payment is sent to your
PaisaPay account.
Your payments are then sent
online to your bank account.
So you should follow-up to ensure an early confirmation so that
your payment is transferred earlier to your account.
Buyers are sent an email reminding them to complete this step -
it will be helpful to instruct the buyer to click the Confirm item receipt button in this email.
When the transaction is completed, remember to leave feedback for the buyer. You should also follow-up with the buyer to do the same for you. This is important in building your reputation as a good seller on eBay.
Note: You can leave only positive feedback for your buyers - this is done to ensure that buyers leave honest feedback without fear of retaliation from the seller. However, if a buyer has left unfair negative feedback or a buyer who hasn't paid for your item leaves you negative feedback, you can dispute this feedback and have it removed from your profile. Learn more
Remember to leave feedback for your buyer from the Feedback Forum.
After the buyer has confirmed that the item was delivered, or if the time given to buyer to confirm delivery is over, your PaisaPay payment is processed.
PaisaPay payments are processed every Monday and Thursday and are transferred online to your registered bank account in 3 days. This means that if you receive a payment on Friday, your payment will processed on the following Monday and will be available in your account by Thursday.
When your payment is transferred to your bank account, you will receive an email notifying you. The amount will then be reflected in your bank account within 2-3 days after receiving the email.
For your first 20 listings you can sell products for free. After your 20 listings, you will be charged fees for selling. See fees for selling on eBay
An invoice is generated by the 15th or the end of every month, depending on when you created your account. You will receive an email to inform you that your invoice is available on eBay.
If your account balance is more than Rs. 25, you should pay your fees in full using the following methods:
PaisaPay - credit card / online bank transfer (immediate)
Cheque or demand draft (requires 7 to 10 working days to process)
Note: Non-payment of fees when your account balance is more than Rs. 25 will lead to suspension of your account.

There will be cases
where the buyer may request a refund even though you delivered the
item. In such cases, sellers can claim for protection. Seller protection
enables a seller to appeal against refund claims.
By providing a valid proof of delivery, you can ensure that for
items that you have delivered, the buyer's payment is not refunded
back.
In some cases, buyers may dispute the payment made using their credit card. In such cases, eBay will recover the amount paid by the buyer from your PaisaPay account. However, you are still protected by PaisaPay's Chargeback Policy. Learn more about the policy

At times the highest
bidder for your product may not be able to pay you. In such cases,
you have the option to offer the product to the next highest bidder
as a Buy It Now option.
After giving a bidder a Second Chance Offer, it is important that
the next highest bidder accepts your offer, which is totally dependent
on how you communicate with the bidder.
You should always make the offer and explain to the bidder why you
are providing this offer.
Suggested
communication:
"Thank you for bidding on my product. The actual high bidder
is no longer interested in purchasing this item. Since you're the
next highest bidder, I thought you might be interested in buying
the product at the price you bid. Please accept the offer that I
have sent across."
How to offer a Second Chance offer:
1. Sign in with your user ID and password.
2. Click My eBay at the top of any eBay page.
3. Click the "Sold" or "Unsold" links under All Selling on the left-hand
menu.
4. If Second Chance Offers are enabled for an item, you will see
the "Second Chance Offer" link on clicking the dropdown menu in
the Action column.

Revenue
Your revenue on eBay in a particular month is the sum of the item
prices that you sold in that month, as well as the shipping, handling
and insurance costs that you charged the buyer. These revenues need
to cover all your costs as well as leave you with a sufficient profit.
Costs
Your
costs may include all of the following:
Cost
of the item that you are selling
Cost
of shipping, insurance, and packaging

While shipping, insurance and packaging costs can be recovered directly
from the buyer, the item price needs to cover the remaining costs
as well as provide a profit.
Conversion Rate
This is defined as the ratio of your successful listings to the
total listings ended in a particular period.
Cost of Sales
Cost of sales on eBay is defined as the ratio of the fees paid to

One great way to attract buyers to your listings is to offer unique deals with your products. For example, if you are selling digital cameras, offer a deal that allows buyers to buy a camera case along with the camera at a lower price.
This is an excellent way of ensuring that buyers choose you over other sellers offering similar products, and of also ensuring that buyers come back to you for future purchases.
eBay
has a very active and vibrant community of sellers and buyers who
are extremely passionate about trading on the site. Use our Community
boards to interact with other members and even to get great trading
tips. Other members are also very willing to answer your questions
and queries.
eBay
frequently organizes workshops and forums for sellers to learn more
about selling on eBay. There are workshops on better pricing, selling
strategies and even understanding eBay's policies. It's also a great
opportunity to interact personally with eBay staff and other members.
Your My World page is your chance to share your personality with other eBay members. "My World" allows you to share your likes, dislikes, hobbies and even have your own blog! Plus, it helps you advertise your listings and members can also look at recent feedback you have received. All this helps members get a glimpse in the person that you are. It's actually a great way to advertise your business because buyers get to the see the person behind the user ID.
You can access other members' My World pages by clicking their user IDs.
