Meg Whitman encourages Indian entrepreneurs to trade globally on eBay

Meg Whitman, President & CEO, eBay Inc., on her first visit to India reiterated immense confidence in India's growing ecommerce market. Meg Whitman & Gautam Thakar, Country Manager, eBay India addressed the Indian media at a briefing in Mumbai.

eBay India (formerly Baazee.com) is a 100% subsidiary of eBay Inc. and was acquired in August 2004. eBay India has a thriving 2 million strong community of buyers and sellers from 240 cities in India. Thousands of sellers trade across cities in India and to countries worldwide.

Meg Whitman stated, "India's booming economy is fuelling the growth of the internet & especially ecommerce." Highlighting the Indian entrepreneurial spirit, she added, "The changing consumer behaviour and growing adoption of internet will help to create more opportunities for young Indian entrepreneurs in the online world both in India and around the globe."

Gautam Thakar said, "We are delighted to see Indian sellers leverage the eBay platform to sell apparel, jewellery, handicrafts & stamps to thousands of buyers worldwide. In fact, an Indian seller sells an item to a global buyer every 9 minutes."
