eBay India unveils findings from the first eBay Asian Exporters Index
Indian Jewellery popular with buyers around the globe

Mumbai, August 31, 2011: eBay India (www.ebay.in), India's leading eCommerce Marketplace, shared key findings on eBay's Asian export business at an event today. Global Trade or Retail Exports at eBay India provides Indian entrepreneurs an online platform to sell hand crafted products to buyers across the globe. Mr. Kashyap Vadapalli, Director - Categories, eBay India & Mr. Chandranath Som, Director, Federation Of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) jointly unveiled the first eBay Asian Exporters Index report.

The Indian export market presents a story of exuberant growth, driven mainly by artisans and small-scale manufacturers. India has a unique strength in hand-crafted value oriented product lines such as diamonds, jewellery, ethnic Indian clothing and handicrafts and its eBay exporters are capitalising on global demand for centuries-old, India-inspired designs across these categories. eBay helps Indian exporters create a global market for categories where the country has developed particular manufacturing expertise - scientific instruments, optics, leather products, sporting goods & Bollywood inspired fashions (silk sarees, salwar kameez & kurtis).
Apart from jewellery, clothing and handicrafts, the other large categories in which India exporters sell are photographic equipments, collectibles such as coins, stamps, Bollywood posters and LP records. The Asian Exporters’ Index also highlights global export trends observed across China, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam.

The information in this Index is based on internal eBay data as well as on data compiled from an online survey conducted in China. The internal data citing year over year sales growth looks at large eBay Asian exporters with an annual turnover greater than US $100,000. Other internal data cited, relating to areas such as category, the eBay sites on which Asian exporters sell, and buyer locations is derived by looking at the top 3,000 sellers in each Asian exporter market featured in this Index.
