The research report showcases interesting trends of India’s Top Gadget Cities, Models & Brands across 4 popular gadget categories of Laptops, Cameras, Mobile Phones & Televisions.

The most popular brands on eBay India include Samsung in the Mobile Phones category, Nikon in the Digital Camera category, Dell in the Laptop category & Sony in the TV Category. On an average day on eBay India, A mobile handset sells every 4 minutes, A laptop sells every 17 minutes & A digital camera sells every 23 minutes.

  • Overall: Samsung is now the market leader in Mobile Phones with as much as 33% market share of all Mobile Phone transactions. Samsung Galaxy Y is the most purchased mobile model in India. Delhi is the Top Mobile Phone City in India.
  • Smart Phones: Samsung also dominates Smart Phones with 1 out of every 2 smart phones purchases being from the Samsung Galaxy series. The most popular mobile Samsung Galaxy Y is also India’s most bought Smart Phone. India’s IT Hub of Bengaluru buys the most Smart Phones in the country. Touch Screen phones completely outsold QWERTY Phones.
  • Dual SIM Phones: The online Indian wants to be better connected with Dual SIM Phones and 1 out of every 8 mobile phone transactions being a Dual SIM Phone. Micromax is the top Dual SIM brand but the most popular model is the Nokia C2-03. The country’s mobile phone capital Delhi is also the top purchasers of Dual SIMs. Interestingly, in contrast to Smart Phones, Dual SIM Phones were dominated by QWERTY Phones
  • Value Phones: Nokia phones were most purchased in the value segment with a 60% share. However, Micromax Q6 was the most purchased Model in Value Phones. Hyderabad bought the most value phones in the country.

  • Overall: Nikon is the market leader in Digital Cameras with as much as 30% market share of all Digital Camera transactions. Nikon COOLPIX S3100 is the most purchased Digital Camera in India. Bengaluru accounts for the most Digital Camera purchases in the country. October saw a definite spike in camera sales with the festive season and the peak holiday travel season.
  • Compact Cameras: Sony continues as the most popular compact camera brand. However, the country’s top Digital Camera, the Nikon COOLPIX S3100 is also the most purchased compact camera. Delhi photographers buy the most compact cameras in the country. 14 Mega Pixels is the most popular compact camera resolution. Compact cameras are still the dominant category at 77 % of all Digital Camera sales.
  • Long Zoom Cameras: Nikon owns the Long Zoom Category with about 56% share. Nikon COOLPIX 120 was the most bought Long Zoom camera. Delhi, was also the Long Zoom Camera capital.
  • Digital SLR Cameras: Nikon also lead the Digital SLR Category although the Canon EOS 550D was the most popular model. Most professional photography enthusiasts emerged from Bengaluru.

  • Overall: Dell is the market leader in Laptops. The iberry BT07 is the most purchased laptop in India, a testament to the popularity of Tablets. Indian geeks are buying more Tablets than Regular Laptops & Netbooks at 39% share of all laptop purchases. Bengaluru bought the most laptops in India.
  • Netbooks: Acer is the most popular netbook brand. However, the country's top purchased Netbook is the Samsung NP-N100. Delhi bought the most netbooks in the country. Netbooks are on a declining trend in comparison to the growth of Tablets.
  • Tablets: iberry is the most popular Tablet brand with the country’s top bought laptop, the iberry BT07 also featuring as the most bought tablet. Bengaluru again features as the Tablet capital of the country.
  • Regular Laptops: Dell is also the most popular Regular Laptop brand with Dell Inspiron 14R as the most bought model. Bengaluru professionals buy the most regular laptops in India.
