eBay India launches new Diwali Campaign
This festive season, avoid mall hopping and shop online from the comfort of your home
Mumbai, October 1, 2010

Mumbai, October 1, 2010: eBay India (www.eBay.in), India’s leading eCommerce marketplace, announced the launch of a new integrated communication campaign which is themed around the festival season of Diwali. The new eBay campaign aims at highlighting eBay India as the destination for the best deals & products for making your festive season even more special. The commercial portrays the frustrations experienced while shopping in a mall and positions eBay India as the new way to indulge for all festival shopping needs - a destination for a convenient shopping experience from the comfort of your home.

The campaign highlights the effortless shopping that one can avail off by shopping online for the best deals with the product being delivered to your doorstep. The campaign is aimed to encourage consumers to log onto eBay India for great offers and best deals on brand new products that one can gift or buy to make this festive season even more special. The consumer will be spoilt for choice with a variety of product categories like Home Décor, apparel, gadgets, gizmos, furnishings among many others.

Mr. Muralikrishnan B, Director — Marketing, eBay India says “Our endeavour with the new eBay Diwali campaign is to tap the growing number of online users in the country. Our concept of the campaign came from the thought of making consumers feel good about the whole festive shopping experience — more fun & less stressful. With this campaign we aim to make consumers aware that eBay is a one stop shop for desired products made available at the best price. We would like to reinforce online shopping as a delightful experience and establish eBay India as the best place for great variety and super, safe deals. ”

Storyboard of the Ad

The TVC opens with a young women going through a series of events on her shopping spree. She is seen shopping in various situations with loads of shopping bags in her hand. The next frame shows a montage of unexpected events. With the weight of the many bags she is carrying she loses her balance, breaking her shoes. But there is no stopping her. She continues her journey from one shop to another reading the Diwali sale banners at different shops.

In another situation, she is seen burning her tongue while sipping a hot cup of coffee in the midst of her shopping spree. Feeling tired, she dumps her shoes in a bin and holds her head in hands as a sign of complete frustration & fatigue from shopping.

She finally hails a cab and loads her shopping bags in the taxi. But to her bad luck, the cab zooms away, leaving her helpless.

The next situation sees the same girl surfing the laptop in the ease & comfort of her home. She is seen browsing through various products ∓ brands online.

The TVC ends with a VO saying, ‘Bus ho gayi purane kissam ki shopping. This Diwali shop the new way. Get the best deals on brand new products. Shop online with eBay India (www.eBay.in).’

Scheduled for a high-voltage, nationwide launch on October 4, 2010, the campaign has been developed by Piyush Raghani and produced by Old School Films. The campaign will roll out nationally, with a combination of TV & Outdoor Hoardings, digital & social mediums to drive awareness and encourage Indians to shop their heart out this festive season without a sweat.
