Mumbai, June 15, 2005
eBay India, India's leading online marketplace, today announced the launch of the Charity Fundraising section. This special Charity Fundraising section aims at offering Indian NGOs a platform to fundraise and reach out to a national and global audience.
Wellknown television anchor and actress Mandira Bedi announced the launch along with representatives from leading NGOs including CRY, HelpAge India, Concern India Foundation, Welfare of Stray Dogs (WSD), Cancer Patients Aid Association, Mouth & Foot Painting Artists Association & Spastics Society of India.
The Charity Fundraising Platform on eBay India offers NGO partners in India an ideal way to generate visibility, consumer buzz and PR attention to raise money for worthy causes. eBay users both in India and worldwide can support their favourite causes by buying products listed by the NGOs.
In keeping with the worldwide trend of celebrity memorabilia being used for fundraising, Mandira Bedi launched the special charity section by listing a special item - a blue georgette saree from her World Cup wardrobe. The proceeds from this special auction will go to charities supported by Ms. Bedi - St. Anthony's Home for the Aged & Shanti Avedna Ashram.
Mandira Bedi says, "I am happy and delighted to be a part of this noble initiative taken by eBay India. The charity fund raising section is the perfect vehicle for creating awareness about NGOs and inviting people to support their preferred cause at a click of a button. It has always been a conscious effort from my end to create awareness and support social causes close to my heart. With this, not only me but people from all across the globe would now be able to make a difference in the lives of many."
Mr. Avnish Bajaj, Country Manager, eBay India stated ,"We invite all NGOs in India to fundraise through this special Charity Fundraising section and reach out to the global & Indian online community. This launch is one of our constant endeavours of benefiting societies and the community we live in. Through eBay India, many NGOs can reach out to the over 147 million strong community of buyers.
