What are buyer requirements?

You can block buyers from bidding on or purchasing your items specifying buyer requirements. You can block buyers who:

  • Have unpaid items

  • Are registered in countries you don't ship to

  • Have reportedly violated eBay policies

  • Have a Feedback score lower than the number you specify

  • Are currently winning or have bought '1-100' of your items in the last 10 days (you can specify the number)

You can also block buyers based on their user ID by creating a blocked list.

Think carefully before blocking buyers. While selecting buyer requirements may reduce your exposure to buyers who could make transactions difficult, it will also reduce the number of potential buyers you'll have for your items.

Specifying buyer requirements globally

To select buyer requirements for all your listings:

  1. Go to My eBay.

  2. Click the Account tab and then click the Site Preferences link in the left navigation.

  3. In the Selling Preferences section, scroll to Buyer requirements and then click the Show link.

  4. Click the Edit link.

  5. On the Buyer Requirements page, select your requirements.

  6. Click the Submit button to save your requirements.

To block buyers in countries you don't want to ship to

  1. Go to My eBay.

  2. Click the Account tab, and then click the Site Preferences link in the left navigation.

  3. In the Selling Preferences section, scroll to Shipping preferences, and then click the Show link.

  4. Click Exclude shipping locations from your listings.

  5. Select one or more continents to exclude all countries on those continents. Or select Show all countries and check the specific countries you don't want to ship to.

  6. All excluded countries you selected will appear on the lower section of the page.

  7. You can select to apply these exclusions to all current live listings on a global level.

  8. Click the Apply button to save your requirements.

The requirements you select will be applied to your current and future listings and can be disabled at any time.

Exceptions

In some cases your requirements won't apply to current listings. You'll need to revise the listing individually to enable your requirements if:

  • You created the listing with a template that specified different buyer requirements.

  • You revised a listing via Turbo Lister but didn't sync the item with your settings in My eBay first.

  • You want to create an exclusion list for countries you don't ship to for a single listing.

Relisting your item

If you relist your item, it will use the buyer requirements you most recently specified.

Specifying buyer requirements for a single listing

To specify buyer requirements for a specific listing, follow these steps:

  1. In the Sell Your Item form, scroll to the Other things you'd like buyers to know section.

  2. If the Buyer requirements option isn't displayed, click the Add or remove options link.

  3. In the pop-up window, select the Buyer requirements checkbox, and then click the Save button.

  4. In the Sell Your Item form, click the Add buyer requirements link.

  5. Select the checkbox next to the requirements you want, and then click the Save button.

Viewing the list of blocked buyers

To see buyers who have been blocked from bidding on or buying your items as a result of your requirements:

  1. Go to My eBay.

  2. Click the Account tab, and then click the Site Preferences link in the left navigation.

  3. Scroll to the Selling Preferences section and click the Show button next to Buyer requirements.

  4. Click the Buyer Requirements Activity Log link.

A table is displayed showing users who have been blocked over the past 60 days as a result of the buyer requirements you've selected. Also, displayed are the date when the member was blocked and the buyer requirement that caused the block.

Creating an exemption list

If you've already set up buyer blocks, you can allow specific eBay members to bid on or purchase your items regardless of any requirement(s) by adding them to your buyer requirements exemption list. Use one of the following methods to exempt buyers:

Exempting buyers using the buyer requirements exemption list:
  1. Enter the user IDs of the eBay members you want to exempt from buyer requirements.

  2. Click the Submit button.

Exempting buyers using the buyer requirements activity log:
  1. Go to My eBay.

  2. Click the Account tab, and then click the Site Preferences link in the left navigation.

  3. In the Selling Preferences section, scroll to Buyer requirements and then click the Show link.

  4. Click the Buyer Requirements Activity Log link.

  5. Select the checkbox next to the eBay members you want to exempt.

  6. Click the Exempt from Buyer Requirements button at the bottom of the page.

Note: You'll sometimes see an asterisk (*) in place of a user ID in the Buyer Requirement Activity Log because we can't disclose certain User IDs in accordance with our Privacy Policy and User Agreement. In this case, you will be unable to add those members to your Buyer Requirements Exemption List.
