Paying for an eBay purchase

When should I pay?

All sellers appreciate quick payment and most ship after receiving payment, so it's good to pay as soon as you win an auction or commit to buy a Buy It Now item. To make an online payment, click the Pay Now button in the email notification or in the listing. The seller will be paid and know to ship your item immediately. Otherwise, we recommend paying within 3 days of the sale. Some sellers include information on when they expect to be paid in their listings.

What payment method should I use?

How you pay for items you buy on eBay depends on the payment options offered by the seller. Before you bid, read the item description carefully to learn what kinds of payments the seller accepts.

All sellers offer the approved electronic payment method of PaisaPay. PaisaPay is a secure online payment method which allows you to pay online using a credit card, debit card, cash card, mobile payments or by making an online bank transfer. We also have PaisaPay Cash on Delivery which is optional for sellers to offer and gives you the ability to pay for the item in cash at the time of delivery. This will be available for you only if the seller offers Cash on Delivery and your shipping address is serviceable by eBay Cash on Delivery partners.

There's also the option of “Buyer picks up and pays”, where you can use this method if the seller offers and pick up the item and pay in person. You may pay the seller in a payment method offered by him such as cash at the time of collecting the item.

To compare payment methods, see choosing a payment method (for buyers).

If you have questions about your payment, contact your seller.

Tip: On search results pages, you can set the search option to show only listings that accept the payment methods you want to use.

How do I make an online payment?

There are separate ways to make payment if you buy an item at fixed price as compared to an item you win in auction.

Fixed Price Payment:

  • After you select the item you want to buy, click on the Buy It Now button in the View Item page

  • Check your shipping information. If you need to correct or update anything, click the Change shipping address link

  • Review your purchase, including shipping charges. If you’re redeeming a coupon , enter the coupon redemption code

  • Select a payment method from the options offered by the seller

  • Confirm your payment. Make sure your shipping details, payment method, and order details are correct

  • Click the Confirm Your Payment button. You'll receive an email confirming receipt and letting you know when your item will be shipped

Auction listing:

  • After you have won an item, the notification for the same appears in the Won section of your ‘My eBay’

  • You will see the Pay Now button in the notification, which when clicked leads you to the ”Review your purchase page

  • Check your shipping information. If you need to correct or update anything, click the Change shipping address link

  • Review your purchase, including shipping,. Select the box next to the items you want to buy. If you have questions about the total amount you owe, click the Request total from seller link

  • Click Continue

  • Select a payment method

  • If you’re redeeming a gift coupon / promotion code , enter the coupon redemption code

  • Confirm your payment. Click the Confirm Your Payment button. You'll receive an email confirming receipt and letting you know when your item will be shipped

What if a seller wants to change payment methods?

Sellers can’t require you to use payment methods that aren’t allowed on eBay or weren't described in the listing. If a seller wants to change payment methods after a listing ends, you can still pay using one of the methods mentioned in the original listing. For details, see the accepted payments policy.

Points to remember

  • Payment methods such as western union money transfer are not recommended by eBay. You should use one of the eBay permissible payment methods only. You will not receive any eBay Guarantee coverage on payment methods not listed on eBay

  • Contact your seller right away with any questions about payment. Once you've won an item on auction, you need to pay within 7 days or the seller may open a case to work this out with you in our Resolution Centre. This creates a dialogue between sellers and buyers and helps them resolve transaction problems

  • If you don't receive your item or it's not as described, you can open a case with eBay Guarantee to work it out with the seller. If you have questions about a payment or haven't received your item, contact your seller first, though—that's usually the fastest way to resolve any problems
