Selecting Payment Methods You’ll Accept

Offering payment choices makes your listing more appealing, and most sellers offer more than one option. However, not all payment methods provide the same value to inspire buyer confidence. It’s important to consider the buyer’s perspective when selecting typical payment options. You should offer as many payment options in your listing as possible.

Buyers’ questions about payment methods include:

  • Is it traceable and is there proof of payment?

  • Is it fast and convenient?

  • How secure is it?

  • What is the liability coverage in case something goes wrong?

For a comparison of payment methods from a buyer’s perspective, see About Payment Methods.

Tip: Save time specifying payment methods by using eBay Checkout. You can set payment preferences for all of your listings using My eBay.

Payment methods used by eBay sellers include:

PaisaPay - PaisaPay is the fast, easy, and secure way to pay on eBay. When you list your item with PaisaPay as a payment method, your buyers can securely pay you online with a credit card, debit card, credit card EMI, cash card or online bank transfers. They can also pay you via the offline option of PaisaPay which is Cash On Delivery (COD) if you offer PaisaPay Cash On Delivery on the listing.

It is hereby clarified that COD payment option shall be available only to Permitted Sellers. Permitted Seller shall mean a seller who is registered with eBay and qualifies to list an item for sale on eBay site with Cash on Delivery as payment option. eBay, may in its sole discretion, provide a criterion for Seller(s) to be eligible to list its products or items for sale on eBay site  through Cash on Delivery as payment option. Further eBay may in its sole discretion and without any notice, fully or partially, modify or withdraw such eligibility criterion.

PaisaPay is a mandatory Payment method for all listings on eBay India. You can optionally offer PaisaPay EMI. Permitted Sellers can also offer PaisaPay COD.

For PaisaPay mode of payment: Buyers pay from the item listing page and payment is deposited directly into your PaisaPay account. The payment is transferred online to your registered bank account after the buyer confirms that the item was delivered. When you use PaisaPay, you don’t need to wait for cheques or demand drafts to arrive in the mail, to be processed, or to deal with processing buyer credit cards.

PaisaPay also offers buyers several conveniences like immediate payment and checkout. In addition, purchases with PaisaPay enjoy other conveniences like:

  • EMI payments: You will now be able to offer your buyers the convenience of paying in 3 or 6 monthly installments. Buyers choosing to pay using EMI will need to pay with ICICI, HDFC and Citibank credit cards. Learn more

  • Shopping cart: Buy It Now items offered with PaisaPay can be added to the buyer’s shopping cart and combined with other purchases.

  • Faster buying: Buy It Now items offered with PaisaPay have a shorter buying process, which is simple and fast to use.

  • eBay gift vouchers: Buy It Now items offered with PaisaPay can be partly paid for with eBay gift vouchers. If a buyer pays a part of your order using an eBay gift voucher, you will still receive the full amount of the order.

Fees for Buyer

For 6M EMI PaisaPay charges the buyer a convenience charge of 2.5% (inclusive of applicable service tax.)

Fees for Seller

Sellers will be charged the standard PaisaPay EMI service fee. See PaisaPay fees

PaisaPay also helps protect you against fraud. For more information, see Selling with PaisaPay.

Important: To further increase the security of trading, new sellers will be able to offer only PaisaPay as a payment method. After completing a specific level of listings, new sellers will be able to offer other payment methods along with PaisaPay. In addition, all listings created on eBay India will always include PaisaPay as payment method. Sellers can opt for other payment methods, but PaisaPay will be mandatory on all listings.
Important note for cross border trade sellers: To keep eBay a safe place for both buyers and sellers, you must have a PayPal account verified and linked to your eBay account if you want to sell globally. Learn more.

New sellers who register after January 17, 2007 and want to sell on eBay US, eBay Canada, eBay UK, or eBay Australia are required to offer PaisaPay as a payment method while creating listings with international shipping on the eBay India site.

PaisaPay Cash On Delivery (COD): This payment method allows buyers to make payment for the item only when it is delivered to them at the address mentioned during purchase.

Cash Card: It is convenient for the buyer to pay for the purchase on eBay using prepaid cash cards. Click here to see the list of Cash Cards available.

Other methods of payment include cheques and demand drafts. These methods are traceable to a particular mailing address, but most sellers wait for the funds to clear before they ship the item to the buyer. The advantage of these methods is that there is no additional fee to the seller.

Cash - eBay does not recommend cash or cash wire transfers as a payment method. The lack of transaction protections, and traceability represent major risks with little to no remedy for transaction problems (see Sending Payments: Benefits and Risks).

Important: You should never accept overpayments from buyers for items where the buyer is asking to be reimbursed for overpayment. These requests could be part of a counterfeit demand draft scheme (see Receiving Payments).
