eBay comes to India - India gets a new address on the globe
March 22, 2005

The World's Online Marketplace, today announced the launch of eBay India (www.eBay.in). Marking the final integration of Baazee.com's technology platform with eBay's platform, the launch of eBay India celebrates the success of Baazee's community of users over the past five years and even more trading opportunities ahead.

eBay India now joins the eBay worldwide family of sites with a common global visual identity. Buyers and sellers in India now have access to a global trading community of 135 million users in 32 markets worldwide. In addition, Indian buyers and sellers can enjoy a more stable and robust platform, tools such as Turbo Lister and Selling Manager Pro that make selling more efficient and world-class trust & safety measures.

Avnish Bajaj, Country Manager, eBay India, said, "We are pleased to bring eBay to India and maintain the largest person-to-person trading community in the country. Our community of users are extremely innovative, entrepreneurial and creative and we look forward to providing them with even greater economic opportunities and a better trading experience overall. We see great potential for Indian entrepreneurs to trade globally especially in categories such as apparel, leather, collectibles, handicrafts and jewellery."

eBay India, India's leading online marketplace, will allow Indian users to trade locally, regionally and globally along with the rest of eBay's worldwide community of users. No other web site offers Indian traders a proven local service with an international reach. Indian users can use their single eBay India ID to trade internationally. Indian sellers can sell their product by listing them on any of the 32 eBay market sites. Indian buyers can also choose to buy products from any of the eBay local sites.

Gil Penchina, Vice President, eBay International, announced at the launch of www.eBay.in, "eBay India, like all eBay sites around the world, offers a platform for the sale of goods and services for a diverse community of individuals and small businesses. We think that Baazee's local expertise combined with eBay's global know-how will do great things for India's e-commerce."

To ensure a good user experience for the Baazee.com community on the platform during the integration process, a five stage integration process was planned from Dec 1, 2004 to March 30, 2005. eBay worked closely with the Baazee.com community to ensure that the integration process ran smoothly. The launch of www.eBay.in is targeted for completion by March 30, 2005.
