1. Why are you placing limits on Shipping & Handling charges a seller can Charge?

In response to the feedback received from our community members, to prevent excessive postage charges- especially for listings in auction style format with low starting price, we will be placing caps to the maximum shipping which can be charged by a seller.

With this initiative, Buyer will be able to better differentiate listings which offer great deals and as a result will enable sellers to continue to run successful businesses and help drive further sales.

2. Are the shipping & Handling charges limits applicable to all Categories on eBay India?

Currently it is not applicable for all categories, Click here to view the entire list of categories on which shipping & handling charges limits are placed.

3. When will limits on Shipping & Handling charges be implemented on eBay India?

The Shipping caps will be applicable for all listings created or edited after 3 rd week of October 2010 for all categories mentioned above.

4. On which shipment methods are the limits applicable?

The Shipping caps will be applicable to Local deliveries (shipment within Sellers city, National Deliveries and PaisaPay Cash on Delivery shipment charges. International shipping charges are not being capped.)

5. Are limits placed on Shipping & Handling charges same across all categories where shipping caps are implemented?

No. Shipping caps amount are different for each Leaf level (or call it sub category) categories, Click here to know the max shipping charges allowed by eBay for your category.

6. How did eBay arrive at limits on Shipping & Handling charges?

eBay has arrived at the maximum limits on Shipping & Handling charges after taking into account Shipping rates charged by courier companies & feedback from our seller community.

7. What happens if I cannot send the item within these Shipping & Handling limits?

For the large majority of items being sold on eBay, there are many postal services that charge below these limits. The maximum limits set are in line with other eCommerce platforms and consistent with the online expectations of buyers. However, an article may sometimes be much heavier than expected. Here are some options to consider:

  • Use a cheaper postal service
  • Incorporate the shipment charges in your item price

8. Will it impact my existing listings?

Although your existing listings live on the site will not be impacted (till they are modified) even if the shipping & handling charges are more than the shipping & handling charges allowed for your listed category, but if the you try to Edit / re-list the listing & the shipping & handling charges are more than the permissible limits for your listing category than those listings will not be updated / submitted.

9. What should I do, such that the limits on Shipping & Handling charges do not impact my listings?

You would need to update your listing so as to ensure the shipping & handling charges mentioned in your listings are within the permissible shipping & handling charges allowed for your category.

10. Why should I continue to offer free Shipping & Handling in my listings?

Research shows that buyers are attracted to listings with free shipping and that the sell-through rate of these listings are much higher than non free shipping listings.

As such, sellers are still encouraged to offer free shipment in their listings.

11. Now that eBay has arrived at maximum Shipping charges for listings, will I receive 5 Star DSR on Shipping & Handling charges if the shipment charges are within the permissible limits?

Through Maximum shipping & handling charges limits, eBay provides guidance to sellers on the maximum shipping & handling charges a seller can charge for the item. In no certain ways does it imply that if shipping charges are below the permissible limit, it will receive 5 stars on shipping & handling charges DSR. DSRs left by buyers are basis their perception about what shipping & handling charges should be.

12. What happens to the existing excessive shipping policy?

The existing excessive shipping charges policy will be modified accordingly to incorporate these changes.
